fuel injector pricing and where to buy

just curious about where you guys get your injectors, i don't want prothe crap injectors, i'd like to get bosch rebuilds, i got them for my jetta in 05 or 06 and they were only 30 bucks or so, now they're around 45 50, does anyone know if you can still get the old pricing?  a 120 dollar job has become a 180 dollar job...

is it any cheaper to simply have some rebuilt/remanned?

or does it just about equal out?

Its about same cost.
It "can" go either way by a few dollars.
Some places will cost more to rebuild your old ones.

If you can get a good local diesel shop to rebuild your old ones with new Bosch nozzles - test spray patterns - verify/adjust correct pop pressures - for around same money - then that is the best way to go.

Some places will just tell you what they think you want to hear and shet you anyway they can to get your money and increase their profits.

Have also been some reports (ever since Bosch began having their nozzles manufactured in India) of an ocassional new nozzle with a poor spray pattern.

Seems like every option has its gambles.

i bought from here, good service, came with the heat shields at no extra charge, and like you said, free return shipping  very smooth i highly recommend it

also as for removing the injectors,  i first got my breaker bar out and i was gonna start cranking on them pushing towards the head, but i didn't feel like wrestling anything, so i got my impact gun out and put it on its lowest setting and all 4 injectors came right out, no issues what so ever,  probably the best way to avoid cracking a head, i can't really see an impact cracking the head especially while the engines good and warm.  but then again who knows.  car was much smoother afterwards.

Glad to hear.  I didn't really notice a difference when I did mine, but I had no history on the car, either.  It was a recent purchase, last summer.  Figured I'd do those, the GPs, timing belt and tensioner, just to be safe.  Shouldn't have waited until winter to do the block heater.....

haha yeah those block heaters are a nice add on.  my car hit 100k so i bought them... kind of odd for an 81 rabbit haha.  also had no history tho so i was playing it safe cause bad injectors can do some serious damage


also a question here,  when i pulled the injectors they had oil on them only cylinders 1-3,  is this a concern?  the car does seem to use oil. i don't know if it burns it or leaks it tho.  could be because i like to wind it out alot, i can't imagine 23:1 cr and 4500-5000 keeps all the oil in the crank.

Since it's just on #1 & 3 I'd think it's either blow by or valve stem seals.  I guess do a compression or leakdown test if you really want to investigate.  Unless it's consuming a lot of oil, I wouldn't be concerned.  Kind of expected on a car that's 30 years old....

I had the engine out, recently, so I added a 2nd block heater.  With 1, it would take about 30-40 minutes to be effective.  I figure if I can cut that time in half for $15, why not.  Maybe I should have done all 3, lol!

haha thats actually a really good idea...  i wouldn't wanna do all 3 thought i'd want atleast one active freeze out plug,  not that they should ever need to be used unless you're running toilet water for coolant

As frozen as those plugs are in the block, I doubt they'd actually perform as a safeguard.  I dread doing 2 in the new (to me) diesel pick up.  I've got a cache of parts piling up for it, but this thread is going way off track.
