91 N/A pump questions
« on: August 07, 2010, 05:26:08 pm »
i have tried searching for this with no luck. sorry if this is a repost. on the injector return line i understand the one end is capped but where does the other end connect to the top banjo fitting nipple on the pump? if so my next question is that on the fuel feed line coming from the filter to the pump that banjo fitting also has a nipple on it as well what connects here? the factory manual is useless on this subject. i bought the car not running and without the soft fuel lines on i figure they gave up on trying to figure this out. buy the way there is a contraption attached to the fuel filter looks like a canister with what looks like an egr valve vacuum pot as well as an electrical plug? is there some better source for fuel system info on these cars

The inlet banjo from the top of the filter should have one nipple only... about a 7.0mm line.  The return banjo should have 2 nipples, one being 3.2 mm from the injector return and a 7.0 mm going back to the tank hard line.

I'm guessing the other stuff is related to your a/c system, but don't take my word for it.  I'm a Rabbit guy.

Post your email address, or send me your email address in a private message. I've got a real clean 89 NA i can send you some pix of how all that goes. Your 91 will be the same if it still has the factory engine and factory Inj Pump.

The parts you're talking about are for the altitude compensation device. Its vacuum controlled and has an electrical plug. Mounts on passenger fender apron. Its better to disable it unless you live in real high elevation.

If you buy a new fuel filter, buy one for an 85-87 Diesel.
They just have an inlet and outlet.
88 89-92 has the preheat feature with an extra set of inlet/outlet for the return lines.
