hit a "road lake" during a heavy rain fall
« on: August 04, 2010, 05:30:00 am »

1997 1.9td

Like title says, hit a huge puddle (road lake) during a heavy rain fall

Motor sucked up a bunch of water whole engine bay got drenched..! stalled right in the middle of the road lake..

can a injector pump short out? There seems to be a audible ticking noise coming from either the injectors or the pump itself.. and alot of smoke coming out of the tailpipe!

any ideas?

You can short out the stop solenoid on the pump.

I would inspect the timing and then do a compression test. Is the air filter wet?

Yeah, it only takes a few cc of water to hydralock the engine and bend one or more rods... compression test will tell the tale.

You won't be the last either, several manufacturers love putting their intakes at the bottom of the engine bay. My Renault lost this battle of compressing the incompressible by tossing it's guts through the crankcase. :)
