Straight through exhaust
« on: August 03, 2010, 07:30:03 am »
Ok on thursday im having the silencers taken out of my exhaust and having a 2 1/4 stainless pipe made all the way to the stainless back box,

Is there anything i will need to do due to the lack of silencers for the engine to run well,

Also while im here my temperature is now sitting just above 1/2 way after a bit of a drive round since i have put in a new thermostat and water pump, is this about right!!!

cheers for all the help in advance

temperature sounds fine
that's what mine runs at
so long as the fan comes on and you have nice clean coolant, everything should be good

your exhaust shouldn't be a problem
it'll be louder, but it won't run any worse
maybe a little better

i think Burn Your Money was asking if it was turbo or NA because a non-turbo engine will be extremely loud and will most likely deafen you if you drive it daily
the turbo takes a lot of the bite out of the exhaust note, a lot of people will run a straight pipe right off the turbo all the way back

the only thing I would suggest it to go to something larger than 2.25"
you may as well go as big as you can

Thankyou matey. It shouldn't be to loud tho due to my back box being massive. Right?

i'm not sure what a back box is but i'm assuming it's a muffler of some kind
it should be fine

yeah sorry im english so a silencer is a mufler in the middle of the pipe and a back box it a muffler at the back generaly with the shiney tail pipes if you are that way inclined, lol

I ran Straight pipes on all my Turbo Diesels and love it, I fine the car works a bit better, but it is a bit louder.

Nothing to worry about, i;ve got a straight pipe with no mufflers at all, its just the right amount of noise, what a good noise it is too.  You'll be fine with your rear muffler on, why not remove that? :)

if you check my passat thread i posted recently you will find a link to youtube where you can check how a 1.9 with turbo sounds.
mine is a gt2052v but that shoudnt change much the sound.
the exhaust is a 60mm with nothing to silence

Well I have had my straight through exhaust made today, it's not really any louder which I'm chuffed about but does seem to pick up a bit better,

Only stubble is when I give it some stick especially up hill it's still vibrating against the body somewhere but it's a dammed sight better than it was, so I'm a happy soot head now!!
