alternator w AC needed

Just tried to bring out the W terminal which is missing on my alternator. I stupidly forgot to undo the battery + cable before working on it. After taking off the voltage regulator, I could see one of the diodes which was accesible from the opening and used a screw driver to scrape clean the diode lead so I can solder a W terminal wire to it. Heard a pop and a spark and the alternator is no longer charging. Took out alternator and took it apart but couldn't take the diode board out without unsoldering the 6 heavy enamel copper wires, which I tried but was unsuccessfull. Wouldn't unsolder even with a big iron.
Anyone buy an alternator from these people? Any good or bad?
Anyone with a good used alternator for my 92 Jetta with AC?

I later realized after I sparked it that I "tested" the alternator with the voltage regulator removed so it was not a good test. I tried again and was able to get the thing apart and soldered on a W terminal (white wire in pic) and put it back together. Installed it and the good news is it charges! The bad news is that my high oil pressure buzzer is still not working. The W terminal is putting out 7 VDC or & VAC (on AC scale) so I think it is putting out the correct signal. More work to find out why. Could be the signal is not getting to the cluster or could be the cluster itself.
