Well I resealed my used 1992 diesel vw transmission , put the nice grease on everything yada yada yada. I filled it up with sta-lube 85w-90 from the speedometer hole until the fluid started to trickle out the fill hole. The good news is not every seal is leaking again. NOw for the bad news. It seems that one of the stupid hockey puck flange seals has popped off on the drivers side and a flange seal on the passenger side is leaking from where the seal contactes the green sleeve

I am guessing I put a little bit too much transmission fluid in my car. I curerently have no running car. All 3 of my vw's are broken in some serious way. My question is what are the chances that my new driveshaft will be allright after having transmission fluid puke into it or will I have to purchase another driveshaft? WHat can I do to prevent the flange cap seals from popping out? RTV silicone? Aviation glue?
CV Shaft should be fine, just pack more grease into it.
The vent that andrew is talking about is right behind the starter. There is a gaint *guessing here* 32mm hex with a little "hood" over it. At the 12:00 position there is the vent hole. I will try to find a pic. Just realized the "hood" is the clutch cable holder and 5th selector...right under the white looking washer in this pic.

here it is smiling at you

a little cleaner but worse angle
Get the car real level and drain the tranny lube into a clean container.
Do check the vent.
Repack the CV joint.
The best thing to use on the flange caps is Permatex #2A , or it might just be called #2 now. But its dark brown gooey sticky as heck, and non-hardening. Get them completely degreased and dried out good before applying the #2A and re-installing.
Then refill with the tranny lubricant using 1.5 quarts.
The drain and filler plugs are loose, it needs 2.0L of GL4 rated fluid in the 75-90 weight range.
That is a direct quote from brokevw on my trans page. I don't know what 2L is in qts but I think it is around 2.2. It is especially true since you are in MKII jetta like mine. Brokevw said that the MKI sat at a different angle and didn't need quite as much.
You're right 53.
I've got mk1 on the brain from working on nothing but the Truck for past 6 months. I drained/refilled it about 3 times.
If you're filling it through the speedo hole - wait longer and give it more time to stabilize into the bottom from running over the gears and such. Let it sit with check plug out for a bit, so it doesn't stay overfilled.
I've got pumps for quart and gallon lube containers and always fill through the check plug.
