Injection Pump Tuning
« on: July 25, 2010, 07:39:59 pm »
I seem to recall an excellent write up on how to set up the injection pump for 1.6L TD and I thought the author was libbybapa.  I have tried to search for it, both by author and by keywords, and have been unable to find it.  The author went in on how to set the idle, adjust the off boost fueling, and then how to adjust the on-boost fueling.  If anyone can recall where it is I would appreciate either a link or some direction on where it is.

Thanks
Greg

I have that article bookmarked and have even printed it out and put it in a notebook in plastic protective sleeves so that I can easily reference it while setting the pump timing.  The write up I'm thinking of discusses how to set the pump adjustments (idle, max fuel, LDA spring preload 'star wheel' and the screw on top of the LDA - aka the 'smoke screw') for the best performance and fuel economy.  The author went through adjustments for off-boost fueling and then on-boost fueling and how one effects the other.

Vince, that's not the post either :(.  I'm fairly positive I saw it here on the GTD Forum and not the VWDieselParts.com forum.

I remember that the post was written so that even someone with minimal diesel experience would be able to understand it and perform the suggested adjustments.  I just wish I remember who wrote it and what the title of the post was.   >:(

Thank you Andrew, that is exactly the information that i was looking for.

Is it possible to get you to make a FAQ entry on this?  I think this information goes right up there with how to time your injection pump, how to reseal the injection pump, how to 'pimp' your glow plugs, and all of the other tidbits of extremely useful info that can be easily found in the FAQs and not buried in the 398 pages of posts in the IDI section alone.
