Blew 5th gear. rebuilding tranny
« on: July 25, 2010, 07:30:20 pm »
Drivin home from work, and passing a car doin about 75mph. and whoooo! there goes 5th. Takin transmission out to get it rebuilt. Its a CHD code tranny. My car is a 94 jetta with an AAZ.  I want to switch the 5th gear from its stock .75 ratio to either the .71 or .68. Anyone have any experience with this. Does .68 suck like a dog on the highway?
Go VW

Find out which 020 you have. Broke VW was telling me some 5ths don't work in certain older ones. It was how they machined them IIRC.

Those are all 02A and newer trannys so it does not apply to you.

www.brokevw.com has a 5th gear swap DIY for your box.

Upon further reading I realized this. all the 8V and 16V talk just friggin confuses me.  But yeah talked to the guy frome Brokevw. hard to find the better gears. I might just buy them from VW. car has enough power to do 200kmph, just no gears for it! I should try and get a pic for you guys of it.  I am the only pre TDI diesel in my area people think its crazy and loud! Wait till my straight pipe goes on! Just got my in cabin boost controller in the mail. PLus I am putting in a loft pressure (3psi) lift pump.
