Have a 1.6TD with stock T3 turbo. Locally a GT-15 is available, factory rebuild, the original application being a 1Z TDI.
First- would this be a good upgrade to the current T3? Faster spooling?
Second - would this be bolt on, or need new downpipe, other modifications?
Much faster spooling. Will bolt to engine with 1Z exhaust manifold. Oil lines and exhaust will need to modify.
USA vnts came with the exhaust manifold pre cast to the turbo.. nothing to worry about there. but you will need to custom fab everything else.
it will physically bolt to the engine, but thats about it. ask me how i know
The GT-15 is like the K03. You will need to clock the turbo, use a new intake pipe (filter to turbo), new pipe between the turbo and intake manifold, custom oil return line, bend the oil feed line and you will need a new, custom downpipe and the proper exhaust manifold.
1Z has regular wastegate turbo with separate manifold.
so they had conventional GTs and variable nozzle GTs?
No, all 1Z and AHUs with wastegate.
so they had conventional GTs and variable nozzle GTs?
im talking turbos in general, not just a 1Z and and AHU.. i know they didnt have the VNT like the ALH did.
im talking garrett GT turbos in general.. sorry if i didnt word it right.
Oh, yes now I got it

GT15 = wastegate, GT15v = vnt.
