anyone know about powerfull diesel engines?
« on: July 17, 2010, 01:54:02 pm »
ok long story short, i opend my big mouth and told my cousin i could beet his new GTR skyline with my mk1 caddy diesel

so now i need to make it happen, GTR does 0-60 in 3 seconds so im told, need to equal or beet that to have a chance at the quater mile
i understand that no vag tdi can do this so im tryna look outside the box, need 600+ bhp diesel engine am prepared to butcher the fook out of my caddy obviously need a gear box too, what engine am i best to look at? dont realy wana spend more than a couple of grand,
was looking at 6.5 gm turbo diesel but not enough power, whats bigger than that? or can they be tuned?

help

4bt-a cummins..

but why would you want to transplant something so much bigger and heavier? any of the big diesels weigh in at close to a thousand pounds. why not just hop up the 1.6?

or:

quit writing checks your @ss cant cash. lol..

my original plan was gut the caddy so its just structural everythin else fiber glass and run my A6 2.5 quatty engine box and subframes
but after adding the quattro bit it will weigh more than it did to start with, i would have a ton that b4 propane/nos/lpg/methanol would be around 290bhp maybe 400 after the gas in a caddy that weighs just under 1000KGs, the GTR weighs 1740kgs 473bhp 433ftlbs and does 0-60 in 3.5 seconds quater mile in 11.7 so can i beet that with a 5 pot on gas? doesnt need to run this every day, just for one race
tbh he will only have 272bhp per ton and ill be looking at 400 with gass infact b4 gass we will be evenly mached except he has revs on his side, what do think?

can any one shed light on this impossible equassion? what gas should i go for, just nos or all of the above?

and what engine is in that?

that looks impressive  :o i bet alot of money has been spent on that

if i got a V8 i could use 2 disco pumps, possibly capable of 400+ with no gas would just need custom fuel lines and clever way of mounting 2 pumps and sycronise the timing

All you'd really need is a complete V8 TDI, maybe mildly warmed over, together with an O1E transmission in the bed of the Caddy driving the rear wheels.  The engines sell routinely on eBay from about 4,500 Euros.

Buy a GTR and put the sound from a diesel engine through a loudspeaker in the engine bay.

The R15 TDI features a 5.5 litres (336 cu in)[4]  Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI) turbodiesel V10 engine, rated at over 600 PS (440 kW; 590 bhp) and 1,050 newton metres (774 ft·lbf) torque.
It is said $15M/yr for Audi to run 3 cars, but those cars will walk all over a skyline.

dont think i can get an R15 engine on ebay tbh

needs to be 4x4 to get off the line quick enough v8 is a bit scary to me, i already hav the kit to do a 5 pot, i also have a big super charger that i might roll with, unless sumone knows a realy gud v8 that will run with 2 disco pumps? tbh from what ive herd you can add nos untill ur engine blows to bits so ill just get a 200 shot on top of what im already making, the engine will take the power sum audi S1 people are running 1500bhp with the same block

You got yourself in over your head on this one....WWWAAAAYYYYYY too deep (in the pocketbook department).

Rear/mid mouning a V8 eliminates any need to use AWD.   There SHOULD be an Audi box that will take the torque.  BUT, none of the above are going to come in under your budget.   If you had the coin, a GM Duramax with a Mendiola gearbox can easily be built to 1000HP and stuck back there.  But, you are now pushing $30k for hardware alone.

I'd probably start with an OM606 upgrade the rods and put two GT28 turbos on it and convert your caddy to RWD. Get a pump from Myna add a 200 shot of nitrous with propane injection. That should get you about 800hp and 1,400 ft/lbs of tq.

Use a modified 700R4 trans ford 9 inch rear with really high gears.
