Different cooling system setup

I know there was a mention of electric water pumps in at least one thread but I thought I would create a new one to avoid resurrecting an old thread. Two things started me thinking about this. I saw a writeup on this manufacturer in ETi (

) and I had a loose belt due to the pivot bolt on my alternator tension bracket breaking. My car can run for some time without alternator output but in this case with the failure, I likely didn't have much coolant flow either.

The system uses an electric water pump but the key is the controller. You remove the thermostat (no potential failures stuck closed) and program your target temperature. It effectively pulses the coolant flow with reduced OFF cycle times as you approach the target temperature. It also has an cooling cycle after engine shutdown to reduce heat soak. Engine warm-up times should be quicker as well with less flow. You would need to use the temperature sensor in the cylinder head to ensure proper temperature control.
It's not cheap, so... thoughts on whether this might be worthwhile? Mind you, it's probably worth 30% of the value of my car right now.

That's an interesting idea, where would you mount it? Would you need to cut off the impeller of the water pump and the pulley? I like the circulation of coolant after the engine is off idea.

The operating temp only goes to -20C
Personally if I was worried I would just switch to a serp setup.

Actually it is -20 of the desired target, not an absolute measurement.

I agree with Tyler... Serp. If you want to improve things on the cheap, and add some life to your oil especially if you have a turbo, us the Summit oil cooler kit. Oil does a significant amount of engine cooling.

I've never had a problem with the stock system.

'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.
I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.
