Hi all,

First post here.

Have the car above which has been running absolutely fine since I've had it (about 18 months).
Drove home from work the other night, no problems. Went to go out later that evening and the car wouldn't start. Just cranks over but won't fire.

Got the engine running using cold start in the air intake. Car runs fine but runs out of power about 3000 rpm (ish).

Have done some diagnostics, the fuel cut off solenoid it fine. On cranking there is no diesel getting to the injectors, none at all. I have temporarily bypassed the fuel filter in case it is that but still the same.

Engine currently has 191k miles shown on the odometer.

Any ideas anyone?

Also noticed that I seem to have lost the switched live to my radio but everything else electrical works fine.

I have replaced the relay 109 incase it was that.

Please help!

I would run 12v to that fuel seliniod and then look for something plugging the fuel lines or filter.

this a Mtdi? or an AAZ? cause all the TDI-e engines i know of, have no stop solenoid like on an old IDI vw. i could be wrong. TDI's are not my cup o tea. but have you checked the ign switch under the lock cylinder assy on the column? VWs have really crappy ign switches.

I don't know, heck I didn't know the 1Z came in 95, but down here in US we didn't have a diesel VW for a long while.

Yup, mine is a very early TDI, probably one of the first as my neighbour has the same age car ('95) with the old TD engine. He was a bit annoyed when I bought the TDI as I get considerably more mpg as well as more power. He likes to borrow it occasionally. I like to imagine him cursing his way to the next town while looking at the onboard computer!

Hehehe.

Still, his one is still running.  :(

A few people have suggested the ignition switch so that is my goal for today!

Anyone know what the various outputs should do at what stage of turning the key?

Cheers

Ok, I've been out and had a play with the ignition switch and have discovered the following.

When the ignition switch is turned on it provides power to all the bigger wires (Black and Red, Blue and Red, Yellow and Red) and I can hear all the relays clicking nicely. However, there are two other wires coming from the switch, and small Brown and Red which seems to go to the radio harness and a plain small Grey wire.

My Haynes manual says that this should go to the spark plug connector but seeing as this is a diesel car, does this go to the fuelling system somehow? My tester shows that this wire has a live feed when the ignition switch is off but when you switch it on it goes over to no supply.

So, something is getting a power feed when the key is switched off, but loses it when you switch to on and when you crank the engine over.

 ???

Any ideas if this is right?
