Typical fuel mileage for AAZ Jetta
« on: June 25, 2010, 08:42:07 am »
I'm considering swapping a 1.9L AAZ into my 92 1.6 EcoDiesel.
What kind of fuel mileage do people get with Rabbits and Jettas powered by an AAZ?

I'm not interested in mods. What kind of mileage have people experienced with near stock, somewhat conservative driving habits?

Thanks.

Yup...  driving habits are the *single* biggest determiner of fuel economy (barring gross mechanical problems like frozen parking brakes. )

So, whatever folks tell you will be *their* numbers... interesting, but as the saying goes "your mileage may very".

Another approach to answering your question might be:  The AAZ engine has a slightly bigger displacement than your current engine... so you can expect a slight drop in whatever economy you're getting now... assuming your current engine is in good tune and your driving habits don't change when you have an extra 5-10 hp to play with.   :D

Vince is correct, however that extra 10hp will be nice for when you don't have to put the peddle down and expel blackness to make it up a hill. Added torque means you should be able to theoretically be able to run a bit lower in the revs and still have moderate power.

If your driving habits remain with Economy in mind, I think you will see a significant increase.

Have just recently done this swap in my mk1 jetta... I have yet to do an economy run  :P

With said added torque and peppyness, its hard to just drive 'normal'. I'm not saying I'm driving like an idiot, but being able to keep up, pass whenever you want, and to just have that get up and go at your foot... well, its not easy keeping it in the slow lane.

even though I'm on it 90% of the time, with my 35L tank, im still averaging about 600-650km a tank.

Also, a roof rack and Basket doesnt help in milage gains...

I suppose when I make my trip down to New Orleans in afew weeks, I'll do an 'economy run'  ;)

That's not bad: 40-43.6 mpg for the great unwashed.
