Glow plug and Batt light

I got an 82 rabbit to day and we tried to start it but the light stayed on for 5 mins so we pull started it then i drove it 200 miles with the light on. will this have hurt anything? after i drove about 60 miles the batt light came on. but f (it was real dim)  after another 30 miles it goes off. then after another 30 back on again then stayed the rest of the trip any help??

Weird problem.   I know the batt light stays on after starting until I step on the gas a bit to make it go away.   I would think it is a charging problem.  Best way to find out is to install a voltage gauge between the alternator and the battery (I think the wire goes through the starter)

Or maybe something simple like a bad ground, or corroded wire?  i
