Disregarding the Eco (1V) did you USAers get a TD hydraulic lifter engine in the Golf, Jetta or Passat? If yes, what years?
Thanks
I've only had 2 guys tell me via web that their 86 TD was Hydra.
All the 85's and the two 86's i've come across in person have been Mech.
86 TD's seem to be much scarcer than the 85's for some reason.
Never seen a factory Golf or Passat TD at all.
Never even seen a Passat Diesel of any early-mid 90 vintage.
Just my regional observations
A friend of mine has an '85 jetta TD, I'm perdy sure it's hydro.
I didn't GET anything....I had to buy the damn thing....yuk!
My 85 TD = solid.
Our 85's were mech 86 changed to hydraulic right?
Yeah in Canada 86.5 is when we switched to hydraulic engines from what I have gathered.

I 'think' thats how it went in USA also.
Definitely no sooner than mid'ish 86 from my observation.
I have a spare 86 TD engine and it is Mech, but they couldn't get driver door to come open when dismantling car - so we don't know when that car was built. The other 86 i came across was built Nov.85 - Mech.
My 85 TDGL is Mech.
One of my best buds has an 85 TDGL, also Mech.
My 1986 (early) Canadian TD was hydraulic.
