EGR.... inlet manifold build up
« on: July 08, 2004, 05:27:03 pm »
Have any of you guys noticed how bad the intake on a N/A motor is compared to the TD's.

I've noticed the steel shim / gasket on the TD and TDi's have a very small hole drilled in them (about 6 - 8mm) to allow flow through. Where the N/A engines have full flow !

The TD manifolds i have looked at and cleaned have much less soot build up. When i took the manifold of my 1.9D and cleaned it, there would have been an easy 40 grams come out of it. I used a power washer and engine de-greaser. I wasnt pleased to find no increase in performance at all however !

EGR was blocked several days after i bought the car 2 years ago, but had covered 85K miles with it operational.

I read that Hino lorry engineers concluded that EGR systems reduce engine life by 25% !

Well.... at least VeeDub was thinkin' of the environment !

Whats your experiences ? Diesel in the US and Canada isnt as good as it is in the UK either.... you's get Ultra Low Sulphur yet ?

DM
