JB WELD and Gas/Diesel

How well does the stuff hold up to Gasoline? I have a pinhole in the gas-tank of my '67 and need to patch it up with a cheap&easy.

It will hold as long as it is dry when you put it on and it is curing. If you put it on and gas leaks out on it or the surface isn't preped well it will come off, but if you put it on well you will not have a problem with gas eating it once it is cured.

just don't use the JB-Quik.  That won't work

The JB website says neither are affected by petroleum products. I used the JB Kwik as I was doing some smaller interior parts as well that I needed to dry rather quickly.

I wire wheeled the tank, and it appeared to have a few pinholes slathered it on real good. Gonna tar over it too.

I wouldn't tar over it as if it does leak through the JB it is a pain to clean. If you have a welder you can weld on the tank, see my avitar for reference

I think the quick might not penatrate in the scratches like the regular. The regular has time to get in there and setup, but you should be fine.

Ahh Lucas, the only one to suggest welding a gas tank.. I do not want a repeat of what happened to you

I suppose the Kwik will not be %100 as good as the original.. but i needed the kwik anyway.. I got it on there good, and it took about 20 minutes to harden.. 4-5 hours to fully cure. Gonna get some fuel in it tomorrow and see how it goes. I will at least paint over it as I have exposed bare metal on the tank.

I really want to go through a charity car wash now, btw.

i tried to jb weld a carb float once. the gas made it useless real quick. get some tank patch. or a piece of sugarless chewing gum..

I had to patch up my mom's tank as well. I used some fuel tank repair stuff from c-tire. It worked really well, I'm quite impressed. Painting the bare metal sounds like a good idea to me.

Yeah I used that stuff Tyler for another Patch on the same tank.. I figured I'd try j. As I needed to fix some other things anyway with it.

Araldite rapid epoxy and a bit of old cotton tee shirt works well if the tank is empty enough with the car on a weird enough angle to stop the fuel comming out. The MOT man enjoyed that one.
