« on: June 15, 2010, 08:57:30 pm »
first off engine is completly rebuilt and has about 15000 on it, and maybe 1000 of the new ring in cylinder #4 as motor suxed up water and bend a rod so replaced and replaced rings on that cylinder and put back together and sems to run ok but i notice if i excel hard in first i can see a nice puff of blue smoke plus i can smell it for alittle while after......and when i had a heavey load in the car i could really smell it. could it be going by the rings???

maybe something not back together right?

You've only got 1000 on the new rings? thats not enough time for them to seat properly yet, oil consumption is normal on new rings, i thought.

Being able to smell the burning oil leads me to believe it may not be coming from your tailpipe. Is it possible that your valve cover gasket leaks when your oil pressure goes up and oil is burning off your exhaust manifold?

yes thats a good possibity, i did just put a new valve cover gasket on but maybe i didnt put it on correct...... is there a certain way to put it on? like i mean with the rubber things but the pullys???
is it ok to put some goop on the gasket to make sure its sealed?

that would definaly make sence for the smell......how many k's does it normaly take for rings to seat??
so it is a possibly even if just one cylinders ring where changed it could be blowing by i bit on the 1 cylinder.......

i guess when should i be alarmed.......
