Leaking Injection Pump :-(

My pump has started leaking on my 1.6D.  Can't tell exactly where, but it seems to be coming from the bottom.  It's a steady drip when idling.

Any idea where it could be leaking from?

Can the leak be repaired, or should I just have the entire pump rebuilt or replaced with a new pump?

Germanautoparts.com has brand new pumps for about $650.  

I'm also aware of the Giles performance rebuild.  I'm told it would also be about $650.

Money is tight right now.  I'm a full time unemployed college student, now without a car.

You can get replacement gaskets for about €/$25,-

I suspect the cold-startadvancerlever O-ring or the top seal.

When replacing the gaskets don't forget the brass bearing for the throttlelever.

mine started leaking at the cold start lever, i was told by my mechanic to rebuild the pump as this could be a sign of more trouble down the road. im waiting for giles to finish building me my new pump. if u decided to have the pump rebuilt def go to giles at superior fuel in canada. for $650 US ill havea new pump that will give me ~20 more hp woot woot!! hehe this is for my non-turbo diesel jetta

I sell bosch seal kits for the VW VE pumps. It is really common for these pumps to leak down at the bottom of the pump from the timing covers. If you have the know how and can retime the injection pump buy a seal kit  and re seal the pump yourself. Costs about $25 instead of $650.

Mine leaked about the same before and it was the coldstart O-ring.  The shop pulled the whole unit out and thus labour was pretty expensive, but I heard from other diesel folks that you don't have to pull it out to replace the O-ring.

Yeah I just got done putting a new cold start o-ring in my injection pump, and it doesnt leak anymore.  Being a full time college student money was a bit tight for me too which is why I didn't go with a new pump, and just bought the gasket kit for twenty dollars.  I took my pump out and put a new o ring in.  It was also a good time for a new timing belt.  if you have all the stuff right there with you it took me approx 5 hours.
