  what is its condition?
  cracks between the valves. etc..?

• It is still attached to the engine. I believe it is non-hydraulic lifters.

• You'll have much better luck if you remove it and inspect it first.
  
  It would also help to positively identify the head. 88 should be hydraulic lifters
