hi guys, pretty new to the site but been reading posts on here for a long time. been dabbling with sb engines for a while no and i fancy building an engine. ive heard off some people that an 1900 aaz block and head with sb pump and injectors ect? im just wondering what your opinions are on engine/pump/injector/turbo mixing and what would you say is a good powerful and strong setup. s
sorry if this is a frequently asked question, i have looked but cant find what im looking for.
cheers
dave
un touched, 1.6 engines are tougher. modified, the AAZ is tougher. but the problem with the AAZ lies in the crank nose.
Yes the problem with AAZ's does lie in the crank nose..
ok cheers guys, the first vw that got me into the diesels was a mk2 golf i regret selling, the work had already been done and i just had to enjoy it. to me it was a good set up but i am inexpirienced in the diesel world. this was the spec
1600 TD SB
gt15 tdi turbo
8v gti inlet manifold
fmic
1900TD aaz fuel pump turned upto to 1.5 bar boost!!!!!
bit of samco and bit of stainless
id like a similar setup again, maybe with a bit more power if poss, ive looked for a gt15 turbo but cant find another one.
the car

the new diesel motor i will be building will be going in my early mk2.currently a 1272 on carbs.ive built this one myself

any advice on what i had or help appreciated guys,id just like to know what turbo and what pump ect. thanks for the knowledge and inspiration in advance
A 1.6TD pump is a great place to start. They can put out A LOT of fuel. If you want more, you can swap in a 1.9 (AAZ) pump camplate. Same with the injectors. If you want to start delving into bigger turbos, mid-sized vnts (from the pd150, various 6 cyl. diesel Mercedes, Saabs, etc.) are great. There's some excellent mechanical vane controller ideas you can build yourself. If you are going to go high output than I would highly recommend porting out the head (1.6 or 1.9 is even better). Also, some of the new ARP studs will help keep the headgasket from blowing.
ok thanks for that, to be honest my pump is buggered, due to being standing, ive been told that its internal corrosion so its full of atf at the moment. if my pump is kaput, i may opt for the 1900 option, depending onm what is avalible. id love to go big on my build but dont feel i am expirienced enough in diesel engines yet. my plan is to keep reading threads on here and build a motor similar to the one i used to have so i can learn more hands on diesel expirience
thanks

Or mine seems to be as I've had 2 and they were warm on both sides
