i have a 1.6TD motor was completey rebuilt before i took ownership of this car.
problem is it sat for 5 months of not running as the IP was toast....
i have been restling back and forth with IP timing to get it jus right. i got to far forward and it smokes under high load and i got to far back it dooesnt idle right......cant seem to find the right spot! bit if i accel hard in first gear and look behind i leave a litte cloud of bluish smoke, only on accel though.....when i get into second and up i can see a whitsigh smoke coming out the back not a ton but i can see it,,,,
anyway to check for turbo seals?
maybe my timing off>?? could that cause bluish smoke as i wouldnt think the motor would be burning any oil as its only got 20 000k on it....
When I had my pump retarded it blew blue/white smoke.
It sounds like your timing is too retarded.. around 0.90 or lower.. I had mine at stock of 0.88 or wtv and it smoked blue. Upped it to 1.03 and it runs like a champ now.
well not having a dial indicator for the pump i do have just a regular dial indicator with magnetic base can i put that on the top of the pump so see exacly how much im moving it> also its in .001 increments so much should i be moving it at a time?
thanks for the quick resonses!!
did you try moving it back and where it doesn't idle right just adjusting idle. Some smoke isn't that big of a deal either, but a thick cloud you can't see through is a problem. Timing kit if you already have a dial indicator isn't much
As long as you can get it securly mounted to the pump I see no reason why you wouldn't be able to time it with the magnetic base.
Are you loosening off all the injection lines and retightening them everytime you adjust the pump?
no i didnt loosen then at all........why........
You need to loosen them all to relieve the stress on them. They are trying to twist back to the old location of the pump. That, combined with the diesel engine vibrations and fuel pulses will crack them.
