Absolutely you will notice a difference with a 2.5 mandrel bent dp and exhaust. You will lower egts, increase spool up, reduce backpressure and create a beautiful sound.

sort of a dumb question here, but can u JUST add boost w/o tinkering with the pump at all and be safe to certain point? or do you have to add fuel when u add boost like on a gas motor?
I"m just wondering, beacuse if u have a pump with LDA would it be able to compensate for the extra boost to a certain point?
Thanks!

Absolutely you can add more boost, but it isn't going to give you any more power. fuel=power in diesel, of course you need to burn the fuel so you can do that by adding more boost. You will be dissapointed when you crank your boost up to 25 psi without adding fuel.

Awsome thanks... so then I guess I'll need to invest in an EGT

You can run 20-30 psi with no issues, although it is way out of the compressor effeciency range.

Just ask 'andy2'...he ran 37psi (compressed) before his went boom

i know this is stupid, but EGT is exhaust gas temp right? So where would the sensor be placed for the gauge? The manifild, or somewhere in teh exhaust piping? And how much to install an intercooler?

Yes EGT is exhaust gas temp, don't feel stupid there was obviously a time when evryone ont his board new nothing of engines, we all have to learn!
Yes the EGT probe should be mounted pre turbo. Intercooler install is greatly gonna depend on the size and cost of your intercooler which reflects your power goal and what is available to you etc etc etc. I am sure you could do a ghetto setup with some PVC pipe and duct tape and some rad hose. but it would likely cause more loss than performance. A setup like Malones isn't cheap though, but damn it sure looks nice.

I was by no means reccomending this and as I stated you would likely be doing more harm than good. You should buy some mandrel bends and get to work with a band saw and a welder to do it properly.[/i]

I recently aquired an Audi 5000 cooler... Hopefully I'll be able to get the 2.5" DP soon from PP.com and have the exhaust made to suit.
The 5000 intercooler is a decent size... and plan on mounting it in front of the rad on the drivers side with some 2.5" Aluminized (or maybe Stainless) piping.
But, while we're on the topic of EGT's... stock DP an exhaust... with an EGT guage of course what would still be a safe tune for a setup like this? Non-intercooled still, stock exhaust, etc....
Basically I'd like to get just a small boost in performance till I get the rest of the cash together for the exhaust and intercooler install.
So say, govenor mod, blow off valve disabled, idle/low boost mod... stock 1.6L TD w/ a K24, could I push it to say 15 psi? or is that too much already? Where should the EGT's be on a good tune?

You can run 20-30 psi with no issues, although it is way out of the compressor effeciency range. I would suggest running 20 psi. I would realy discourage running more boost without having a 2.5" downpipe and freeflowing exhaust. Stock boost is around 10psi. I use an electronic boost controller setup that works really well for me and you can adjust the boost from inside the cockpit! Check out malones original 1.6td thread to get an idea of what I am talking about http://www.vwdiesel.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=1352&highlight=
Excuse the ghettoness there but you get the idea. Passenger Performance will be offering an easy install your self electronic boost controller kit very soon for our IDI engines including an aluminum block off plate for the inatke manifold.
hmmm well is there any other way of controling the wastegate - without using electronic boost controller

There are lots of ways to control the wastegate. Bleeds, ball and spring contorllers, combo's of the two. Wastegate arm adjustments, depending on the wastegate some even have adjustments to be made right on the wastgate its self. I am not going to go into the details of each as there are tons of threads out there covering them.
