« on: June 04, 2010, 05:35:57 pm »
which arp main studs do i use on my aaz bottom end with my girdle, these have obviously got to be longer as i have to have spacers cut too to go between the caps and girdle.
also any one know if arp do replacement big end cap bolts and are they worth using or should i just go with oem

I'm going to go to local fastener specialist and order some high tensile bolts to suit.

I've got the cad file sorted today - with a oil pump web and dipstick hole.

Just getting a quote for the plate....and then do a group buy if you are interested?

I haven't installed a girdle yet but ARP is good about finding you studs that will work. Just send them the thread pitch, diameter and length of the studs you will need and they will get you a part number that will work.

I'd go for one, but I ended up buying one on ebay with arp fasteners, i didn't figure it was that bad of a price as arp was included.  However a flat plate won't work unless you use an awfully large spacer or machine the steps out you need for the main caps.  I couldn't figure out how to make it fit without a lot of work and I couldn't waste the time to have it changed.

ARP part #s

Head Studs..........................251-4701
Main Studs...........................204-5402
Con Rod bolts 1.6 and 1.7......104-6002
Trans ring gear bolt kit 020 ...204-3001
Oil pump bolts.......................661-1014

The big end on the con rod in my package said for all 8v watercooled VW...

There is a new Head stud # but don't know off hand.

The trans ring gear will have different bolts depending on which year...but they are all similar 3001  3002  3003 if I remember right.

I think the mains should be the same as well. Good luck.

Are those standard length fitments?

We need extra long bolts for the mains as they have to accomodate the spacer blocks and the girdle thickness

Also later AAZ have longer bolts (80mm) than earlier&1,6 (65mm) from factory, these go deeper to block. I emailed ARP when I made the first girdle, they had correct studs. But they wont´ship overseas, so I had to forget it that time. I used 12.9 bolts, stock are 10.9.
