This recently acquired 91 Jetta is giving me fits getting it sorted. I found a bad wheel bearing, struts are shot and I am getting this vibration/noise right in front of me at about 45 mostly when I decelerate. I thought it might be inner CV joint- not so sure now. Also getting a small rattle coming from the clutch area at startup that goes away when you push the clutch in. I was thinking of pulling her apart this weekend to see if perhaps one of the clutch springs was about to exit ( I have had that happen)
I have the car up on jackstands with both the axles off. I start the car and put in all the gears. No real issues at normal engine speeds but at idle in gear there is a very pronounced rattle coming from the transmission/bellhousing area in 3rd 4th and 5th. Does this sound "normal"? Would that point to further issues in the flywheel/pressure plate area?
Advice cognoscenti gearheads?
Rick
