did you get them during the sale at canadian tire?

p155/80r13 by chance? i just picked up a pair last week, still need to balance and fit them. in past experience they have been good tires, especially for the money. have you used them in the snow at all yet?

I did get them at Canadian Tire but before the sale.. Duh.. They are 175/70r13 the size that belongs on the car for the year... Last year I had  Michelin Alpins and they were the crap I got stuck every time it snowed 4" or more... Thought that I would try these this year...No snow yet but it's coming..

I got  175/70/R13  Dunlop Graspic DS-1  for my jetta.  First time I've ever used snow tires. Traction perspective: the car takes off like an AWD, Handling perspective: Still slippery like any other tire. Cornering: not too good, but not too bad, I'd just expect more from a winter tire...

Other than that, I love em. Got them @ wal-mart for $73 a piece.

i run p195/60r14 in the summer, but for winter driving the narrowest i can find is what i go with. doesn't hurt that narrower is almost always cheaper either.  :lol: i know of a guy running 145s on his caddy.  :shock:

I fully agree. Everybody thinks I'm nuts running 175/70-13 snows on my A3 but they really hook up. Ground pressure is where it's at.

As an added bonus I can sling cooked rubber everywhere if I want, the skinnies don't grip the dry pavement quite like the 195/60-14's.  :twisted:

All the 2L gas ones had 10.1's. The VR6's were over 11" with the drivers edition VR6 being a bit bigger. I can't recall the specific numbers off the top of my head

Yeah snow!  We just drove the "new" '81 diesel rabbit we just bought home last night from through the snow, about 5 degrees outside.  It handles great in the snow. I tried to break it loose a few times and could barely get it to slide.  Doesn't even have snow tires on it yet.

It also runs great for a $450 car.  Shifter is a bit vague and the shocks are gone, but it starts right up in the cold and runs smooth.  Got above 40mpg on the trip back, and kept up with traffic for the most part -- 45mph on the hills.  Anyone know what the torque of the 1.6NA is compared to a honda civic? -- feels like it's got alot more power than a '95 civic down at 1000 - 2000 rpm tooling around town.

That I will... before this '82 Diesel I had an '84 GLI and it was great in the snow... I chalked getting stuck up to the tourqe rather than the car or the driver :wink: .... I could be wrong about that...

Are you talking about the people where you live? I don't think our roads are quite so bad because the frost ruins the concrete in colder climates. It rarely gets below freezing here and our roads are generally pretty good. My current daily driver has 14's, but my Rabbit has 15's and my old Rabbit had 16's on it.

I'm talking about our climate in the Maritimes where it can hit a +4 cel. then a couple of days later can hit -20 cel. ...  Only in the winter though... A friend of mine has a A-3 Golf TDI that looked good with 205/50R15 on it, only after destroying 3 rims he went to the 195/60R14 and so far he has had good luck and a nicer riding....

I forgot to add that my summers are the same size as yours 195/60R14 Kelly Chargers, they are barley scuffed after this summer compaired to the Good Year Comps I have had before which wore out after 2 summers, could be the way I drive, getting pissed at ppl that pass me and then pass them in the corners is great as long as I can keep up with them on the straits...

Canadian turbo diesels (like mine) and CL (1.8l) models came with 9.4" solid rotors up front. I changed to 9.4 vented fronts at the earliest opportunity. 13"s clear with no trouble. TDI and 2.0 have 10.1's and require 14's to clear the calipers.
