Thought i'd start this thread to give folks a place to brag on latest victories/finds in their area BoneYards.
I scouted a place last week, then was on pins and needles all week until I get back there this past Friday. They aren't the cheapest around - but fairly priced mostly.
Excellent almost new pair of mk2 Jetta drip rail weatherstrips/moldings. Never have found or seen a pair this nice before - was stoked ! $15 pair
Nice 4 button steering wheel. $5
First one I've ever found in a BoneYard - that was cool.
GLI jetta rear spoiler in good condition. $10
First time found one in 1 piece.
Vane style mk2 Diesel vacuum pump $10
First mk2 Diesel i've yet to come across in any BoneYard around here.
Mint pair of 200mm rear drums from a 92 Gasser, for my 81 Truck.
Timmken wheel bearings look like new. $20 for pair
2 reverse/upshift tranny switches and a bag of Miscellaneous.
$ Free
Gonna try and go back later this week for more stuff.

I love junkyard gold.
There is a small junkyard about 15 minutes from my house that always has a great variety of cars.
I got a complete rear axle from a GLS Jetta with the disc brakes, disk brake proportioning valve, e-brake cables and the sway bar tube thingy for something like $100. I forget the circumstances but one of the catty Mexican ladies who works there called me something like a "stupid white boy" in Spanish (I think because they tried to charge me for the price of a pickup truck axle and I argued with them about it), not realizing that I speak Spanish. When I got angry about this, she offered to let me have the leather wrapped steering wheel and e-brake handle for free. I then accidentally dropped the e-brake handle and scuffed it on the pavement but not so badly.
At the same yard I have also found a BMW 3.5 big six cylinder head that was new, in a box, in the trunk of a car, they charged me the usual price for a 4 cylinder head ($35, apparently the cashier can't count). I also have bought many rare parts for my '75 Fiat Spider for pennies on the dollar. My Jeep buddies and I have found a lot of good Jeep stuff there too. The real goldmine for Jeeps was when that car scrapping thing happened last summer. We all put leather, heated seats from luxury SUVs in our beat up old Jeeps.
I may have the opportunity to go to Spain as I have a close friend from there who wants me to help him bring a classic Mercedes-Benz to the U.S. I will need to make some trips to the Spanish junkyards for VW GTD parts.

THis was a few years back, but in Daytona Beach I grabbed the gas combustion heater & everything associated out of a '73 Thing for $20... never got around to installing it, and later sold at a swap meet for $250.
There was a beach buggy rental there that had a bunch of Things, they scrapped them all because of rust, I grabbed every little plastic trim bit and hole plug for my '74 I was restoring.
Further south on US 1, towards Canaveral was a yard that had tons of loaf bus & vanagons sitting in it, wish I had access to that one right now!

Yeah that DAB upullit yard has had gold in it at times, but lately its just got new garbage in it (but face it, most of our cars now live on in Chinese goods somewhere). I found a cherry 3rd row seat for a W123 MB and leather MB R107 (coupe) seats for peanuts that I later sold for big bucks. I used to do well on Rabbit parts over the years ( several heads, transmissions) but there's just not as much now. That yard used to be rockin' when it was independent, but now LKQ has its mitts on it...

I've found lots of great stuff, and rare stuff in the local scrap yard, they recognize my car and know me on a first name basis so i get some good deals. I've got things from chrome interior door handles, to aftermarket parts, to a near complete 1.8t complete swap for $450.
