Techtonics tuning downpipes for a mk1
« on: May 12, 2010, 07:26:55 am »
Has anyone used the techtonics tunings downpipes? I am considering one for my mk1 TD build (part no. 251224)

http://techtonicstuninginc.com/main/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_11_4_284&products_id=592

The motor will be squeezed for some extra performance and will run a k14 and intercooler. I have asked TT if this downpipe suits the k14 but no answer.....

I just noticed they have a 2.5" downpipe to suit the AAZ motor in a mk1 (part no. 251 224L). As my turbo is off an AAZ motor, the flanges should match. How much taller is the 1.9AAZ over the 1.6?

TT downpipes are made for two aaz turbo model's

KO3

T2/T3/K14

I sent them manifolds and turbo so they would have the correct patterns

I have a K03/k04 1..9 AAZ with S/S 2.5 and 2.5 exhaust

Perfect fitment

I drilled and tapped my exhaust manifold  before I had it ceramic coated ( 50.00 )
I also did the tailpipe since I wanted that assy black

Wants pic's

Will that 2.5" downpipe fit a Mk II / Mk III?

a mk1 d/p will only fit an mk1. on mk2/3 cars, a mk1 header/downpipe hits the rack and pinion. and im not talking a little bit either. you cant just dent it a little bit and get it to work. why not buy the specific piece that bolts onto your car? or build your own d/p?

So if i get the 2.5" AAZ in a Mk1 downpipe it should fit my k14 but dangle an extra 16mm lower?

How about the quality and design - any comments?

Cheers

I'm all in to getting the right part - thing is they've only got a 2.25" for Mk II/III cars, at least that's all they list on the website.  Build my own would be fine, but I'd have to learn to weld first!!  Probably wouldn't go over so well in the landlord's place either way...

Just call and talk to Josh....they can custom make an exhaust to fit the exhaust to your specific application. I'm having one done now.

I have a 2.25 tt dp going into a 2.5" modified (no res. or muffler) tt VR6 setup. It is perfect!

They are excellent to deal with and ship things quickly. IIRC it was about four days to my door in east sooke.
