It will have to a custom bracket / bolted to the rear frame.

True, it will have to be bolted to the frame, but it would be nice to find one that shows where and how it bolts to the frame. 

I saw the one on ebay also and it could be helpful for a design.  If nothing comes up, I have planned on fabbing one up since I need to pull a trailer with my Caddy when it is done, and I need a frame hitch to pull the weight. 

We'll keep working at it.

I recently saw one (class 1) listed on a site when trowling - I always click all the links to see what is offered by various places for the Trucks.

It was either Rock Auto or JC Whitney - I'm almost certain.

Both of my trucks have the bumper mounted ball.
I haven't pulled anything with them yet.
One of them has the 1pc HD step bumper (non chrome).
I 'think' that one would probably be as good or better as a class 1 hitch ?

It is a bolt-up and would work.  The rating is for 150 lbs. tongue weight and 1500 total towing weight. 

The picture helps for a good design also. 

This is a little light for my need, but might help Dennis.

That's all you'll get from a Class 1 unit.

You probably need/want Class 3 Receiver type.

Reese and Draw-Tite have some Universal kits that might get you going in that direction.

My HD Truck has the multi-leaf springs (4 or 5) in rear and spring assisted rear shocks. It sits up stout in the rear even with a MASSIVE F-glass campershell and 400 lbs of cargo laying in back.

The other Truck has standard springs/shocks, and squats with a conventional size F-glass campershell and 200 lbs cargo.

You need to consider the leaf springs - if you haven't already.

That Class 1 is probably designed around the max limit capacity, capability, and brakes, of a standard Rabbit Truck. I would trust the HD Step Bumper further than that Class1 hitch. IMHO

I've thought about buying one of those commercial grade entrance rugs, the ones with rubber on the bottom and hard carpet on the top and just putting that back there, cutting out the fenders, trim to fit. Those rugs are only about $20-$30 or so at a home improvement store.

I want to back-track and say that i wasn't throwing off on the Class1 trailer hitch - if it reads that way.

With new bolts throughout in a 3-piece chrome rear bumper, and the Class1 bolted into it and the rear frame brace - it should handle the work fine up to or beyond its stated capacity.

Gee-Bee, the industrial rubber backed carpet/mat is what I had in mind to use for now also. I've got a couple from an old Texaco service station.
And was thinking to use some that cushioned workspace floor mat stuff that is 2' x 2' sections and clicks together like jigsaw - trimmed to fit - under the carpet/mat.

I'm a cheap date.

HD Truck now has a raised wooden floor with 2 full length drawers under the platform - as bought. Pretty wild set-up. It kept the original bed floor Mint, along with the campershell's help.

Pretty sure i'm taking that stuff out of it.

How much do you reckon you can tow with a caddy? I wouldn't really want to exceed the weight of the truck itself and my truck weighs just under 2100 lbs.

Yeah, I have been thinking along the same lines in terms of how much weight it can tow.  I am putting in a 1.6 td motor, and will be using an electric brake system on the trailer I am towing, and maybe adding more springs or air bag assist to strengthen the back.  But, I'm with you, I don't think I want to pull more than the weight of the caddy, although I will see how much my trailer weighs and see how it pulls. 

GeeBee has some good ideas for brake mods which would add the estra stopping power needed for more weight.   

Dennis, any of the trailer hitches sound useful for your application?
