Need: Headliner for 81 Rabbit 2 Dr.
« on: May 09, 2010, 10:03:27 pm »
Any suggestions or leads on what kind of headliner kit to put in our 81 Rabbit 2 Dr.  The carboard headliner is missing.  Previous owner put in some black vinyl that hangs on your head when you drive.  Is there a kit that one could use to replace the cardboard unit (a stand alone kit).  What do some of you have, what did you do, or what would you recommend?  There is no local option here, and shipping a cardboard piece seems out of the question.

I am open to suggestions and solutions, and if you have the supplies, getting them from you.  The interior color is grey.
I modified this request since the original was misleading.
Thanks  ;)

If it isn't an issue of complete good looks or a show piece I have used thumbtacs. You said the cardboard was gone though. You could get some large cardboard and use some thumbtacs. My GTI that I drive now I put some sheet metal and tek screws into it in the solid non leaking areas and that held it up.

I am sure if there is a link to a headliner kit the member Gee-Bee will know. He seems to have restored every peice of his caddy by all the knowledge he has shared.

Actually, cardboard isn't a bad idea.  I'll think on that.  Maybe I could get one from another kind of vehicle @ the boneyard and modify it.  Hmm.   Have to look.
Thanks

If it gets to where it might be worth the expense, a guy near me is parting an 81 2door Rabbit with a Very NICE dark blue interior. No dash or driver seat.

I didn't look at headliner - but assuming it will be very nice also.
He would sell/ship anything to you.
The more the merrier ...
He has shipped awkward stuff before.
Can send you his email if you want to contact him about condition/price/shipping. Very honest strait up guy, for a Ford man.

I need to go back there in near future and get some more oddball pieces from it. It is in central NC. Anything other than the seats or the headliner .... i would be willing to handle and ship. sorry

The carboard headliner is missing.

I used some M3 spray-adhesive and that bubble wrap that has tin foil on both sides (sound-deadening stuff) but my headliner was in a 4dr and had those metal support bars to hold it up. You might be able to spray-adhesive the headliner right to the sound-deadening stuff though.

 ??? ???

I don't know for sure.
I know it had nice cargo cover thingy and speaker shelves.

The tailites were gone so the piece for covering the tailites may be laying loose up under there.

I'll email him tomorrow or next day and see if he will check for those 2 pieces and their condition.
