New grills
« on: May 05, 2010, 08:27:47 pm »
I just was looking at rockauto and noticed they have mk1 grills for dirt cheap, if you have square headlights with corner blinkers it cost less than $24 and with round headlights minus the headlight bezel it cost less than 8 bucks :o.

Sadly they don't have the grills for square headlighted bumper blinkered rabbits though.

They also have floorpans, hoods and different body parts too.
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

Rock Auto often has distributor closeouts that are cheap- for example I think I saw they had 1.6 rod bearings for $2.  I bought oil pumps for $22 a few months ago.

Rock Auto is a dynamite source.

I always check them out when looking to purchase.

Their shipping rates are actual - uninflated, also.

I think now, that maybe some of their "super deal" prices have some padding added on the shipping.

For the heck of it - I priced an Mk2 front rebar - the shipping came up to like $17-18. Surely a metal bumper reinforcement would be more costly to ship than a plastic grille comparable size.

so goes it

another big reason for shipping differences...

Their headquarters is located in my home town (Madison WI), but they really don't stock anything here.  They are Uni-select's largest customer, for example.   Much of their stuff comes out of other people's warehouses and is dropshipped straight from them, without rockauto having to deal with anything but paperwork.   So shipping is largely up to the warehouse it's shipping from.
