« on: May 02, 2010, 04:26:35 pm »
Hey i just put on my new timming belt and timed up everything. well bad news is my belt moves to the pass side of the pulley about 1/4" ? why would it do such a thing, it doesnt move in or out just to that one spot and thats it. so im still trying to prime the fuel system as well whats the best way to do so other then just cranking over the engine? i just put on a new head..... hasnt fired yet. it turns over nice just hasnt fired yet, but ive only turned it over 3 times and my battery was weak from sitting so long. what yall figuree

well got this issue resolved. now another still wont start, it sounds like it rolls over to easy. i can tell it has got compression you hear the exhaust poping but it wont fire. its got fuel to the injectors i cracked them lines, but the batt is low so i wonder if shes not turning over fast enough. any suggestions

yupp sure did everything seemed A-OK so i just tried again and it started to smoke and fire now im almost thinking theres air in the fuel system that doesnt want to co-opperate and come out

if you have some air in the fuel lines, a weak battery or weak GP's it will be very hard to start. Even with a good glow of the plugs.. if you can't get it spinning fast enough, you won't be able to spin up the proper compression.

If you have cracked the fuel lines and got fuel squirting from them, and you have verified that all four gp's work. The last thing needed is spinning that motor to build up 400f ;) and voila! The diesel will ignite :P

Get a new battery in it, or a car to jump from will do it. get it running! lol

Sorry when you say it fires a lot better.. yet it doesn't run.. What does Fire mean? Turn over to me is the starter turning the motor, but not running. Firing the engine, to me, means running on its own power.

So the starter turns the engine nice and fast, the glow plugs are all verified getting red hot within 6-7 seconds, and the battery is brand new? It also coughs and sputters smoke while trying to start it?

I'd say your almost there, and it is most likely just trying to prime itself. Let the glowplugs cycle, and then engage the starter for 15 second bursts with 10 second rests until she starts. It will start, unless your compression is so utterly low it is not going to start. :(
