my style oil spearator

Here is the all aluminum oil separator I made for my 1984 NA 1.6L I turbo'd and put in my Dodge Caravan (build in a different thread).

I started with the cheap 2" x 1/8" extruded aluminum sold at Home Depot. It has some coating on it that does not TIG weld well, so a quick cleanup in the bead blaster worked well. Here is a view of the four sides after they are welded together and the top vent tube is welded in place for a 3/4" hose.

Here is half of the bottom, with the 3/4" fitting for the hose from the valve cover.

Here is the bottom, both halves being welded to the bottom,

Here are the baffles I made from the same stock. The holes are about 3/16" and you'll see there are several layers of them.

Stacking them in the bottom.

Above the baffles I put a 3/4" thick vapor canister filter. It was round but I cut is square. Its for a 1993 GMC Sonoma 4.3L - oreillyauto.com Auto calls it "BWD - Vapor Canister Filter
Part Number: EC224"

Here is the top - I welded a couple of bars across the ends of the top and drilled a tapped 1/4" x 20 holes in each corner. The top is sealed with engine RTV and stainless steel bolts are holding it in place, with RTV as a lock tite.

Pained for extra sealing of any pin holes.

Mounted to the firewall.

Looks nice! Hey I wanna talk to you by phone about setting up my TIG. Do you have time for that?

Arb I have much respect for your "can do" attitude, I think, given enough time you could build the whole vehicle from scratch ;D. The separator is a really good idea, no matter what the Alpha dog says ;D,. Also your use of commonly available material is really 8), your whole project shows what can be done with some ingenuity and a desire to make it work, kudos.

The oil separator is definitely a good idea.  I'd be more inclined to install a TD valve cover and the stock oil separator, but I know you like your stuff homemade from scratch, Arb.   :)

Yeah, I like just knowing I have something unique :-D  I actually tried to get a stock baffle, but the guy never followed through.

You could still add the cam baffle, TD valve cover and TD oil separator and then run to your separator.  Sure wouldn't hurt anything.

It I can find them, I'd like to change to that :-)
