dual Pillar Pod for MK1 Caddy
« on: April 24, 2010, 12:00:48 am »
Does anyone know where I can get a dual pillar pod for my caddy?  Is there a manufacturer or another application that works?  I want to mount my pyrometer and boost guages on the driver's side pillar and need some help in finding what works well.
What have some of you done?  ;)

Thanks

Sounded like a good lead, but went to the site and couldn't find any contact info or e-mail addresses.  It just listed that they were in process of development, but no way to contact.

If you have the e-mail or way to contact, I would be interested.

It seems like there would be a narrow pillar pod from a different application that would work reasonably well.  Anyone have sucess with another application?

I don't know how different they are, but you could probably make these work. Heat and bend or otherwise

I don't have any info I just saw it a while ago when looking for an a-pillar gauge pod, I decided to use the a/c vents in the middle and perhaps I'll add something later.

If you're good with fab/playing with plastics I've seen the universal ones look good on a few different applications but I've also seen terrible installs. I guess I probably shouldn't care considering the condition of the rest of my interior  :(

Hey guys, the site you mentioned (vwcraft.com) is mine. I developed a MK1 pod 3-4 years ago in a vacuum-formed abs, but they never fit quite right because the a-pillar is so narrow. I am in the process of a redesign and this time around they will be molded in epoxy/fiberglass with a factory texture. I hope to have some pictures of the master on the site in the next couple of weeks.

Cheers,
Jake

Ask and yea shall receive!

I'll keep an eye on your site. Or maybe post more product info/pics here when they're finished.

Hello all,

Been busy with some other things (pregnant wife) and I'm just now getting back to this. I'm completing the finishing touches and should have the pod finished this weekend. With any luck I can post some pictures in the next week.

Question - anyone ever tried fitting the 83-84 a-pillar plastics to an earlier MK1? I know the windshield seal is different but does the a-pillar cover still fit? I may be looking for an early MK1 owner to test fit this pod before production. Any takers?

Also, this a-pillar pod is designed to hold 2 gauges. Is there any interest in a 3 gauge pod?

Thanks for the update.

Do you have any timeline for when we can expect mk2 parts?

Excellent. Once you post pictures of where the gauges are located I'll be able to see if I'd want a third or not. I hate wide A-pillars.

I should have them done at about the same time. Here is the rough shape of the mk2 pod:

I've heard the a-pillar plastic will fit, but it may stick out a lot in the front, because of the bulkiness of the seal.  I recall when you were trying to make a "one size fits all" a few years back, and I brought up the seal issue.

I'd be willing to test fit it....  what's involved on my end?  Shoot me a PM.
