Help with Vanagon engine mount dimensions...
« on: April 21, 2010, 08:20:08 pm »
Regarding the later style rubber Vanagon engine mounts, I'm looking for a few dimensions.

First, I need to know the distance from the center of the 10mm center bolt to the inboard side of the metal casing.
Next I'd like the dimension from the center of the 10mm bolt to the center of the locating nub.
Finally, if someone has it, I'd like to know how far the head of the larger (12mm?) mounting bolt protrudes beyond the edge of the metal casing.

The attaced photo might help illustrate what I'm after...
Thanks
Chris

May have these off at the weekend on mine, if so I'll take some measurements for you.

 :-[

now i feel like a bit of a donkey, forgot all about this until finding the thread again just now  :(

sorry aboot that, I had the engine out too so I could have done this easily!!  :-[

I have an engine mount in the cellar, I could measure centres on the stud hole to the nub locating hole from that?

Is the main stud not central on the whole piece?

I'm not really sure... I'm kinda betting that VW used the same outer shell as the early style mounts, turned 90 degrees with changes only to the internal part of the mount. I just need to verify one way or the other...

Thanks

I figured out that Audi A4's and A6's w/ manual trans. use the same mount for the trans.
So maybe there is some better derometer for those mounts?

Chris,

I just measured the bracket I have, dim B is 25mm. I would guesstimate that dim A is 35mm.

Hope this helps, sorry again i forgot when I had the engine out  :-[

What is your last question about the 12mm head, I dont entirely understand? Sounds like you are just asking for the depth of the bolt head??

Thank you much!
Just so we're on the same page - you're measuring the two holes in the aluminum "arm", correct? This would be the later arm that has the small locating hole drilled inboard of the larger mounting hole, as well as the two little locating tabs extending off toward the front?

Regarding the other question, I'm curious how much clearance is required to accommodate the head of the mounting bolt beyond the edge of the rubber mount. I can estimate this if all else fails.

Not sure about the 2 tabs, Ill take a looky again tomorrow, but yes hole wise. Yup its the later style (1990).

I see what you mean with the bolt bit now, I can look on my van in the morning and check that out no probs (if i remember!  ;D)
