ARP head bolt torque

i know this has probably been asked a hundred times before but what torque are people doin arp heads bolts to? its got a steel head gasket that was changed about 1000 miles ago and its gone already. im getting massive amounts of pressure in the coolant system thought the head might have lifted as all the surfaces were clean and flat.

i recommend ARP head STUDS.
stage 1- 30ft-lb
stage 2- 44 ft-lb
stage 3- additional 90 degrees
stage 4- another 90 degrees

You sure that torque sequence isn't for the stock bolts???? I've never heard of stretching ARP studs.

'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

yeh that does sound like the torque sequence for stock bolts

100ft/lbs should seal and give you a little more room for error. I think 53 willy's did 110ft/lbs and no issues with breaking.

every time this thread happens I say the exact same thing!  WHAT LUBE??!! The ARP moly shloob decreases static & dynamic friction within the fastner significantly more than motor oil or other lubes. What chould be well over 100ftlb with motor oil will be in the 80ftlb range with the arp lube & get the same clamping load. Do the oil torque with moly & you run the risk of taking your studs into yield.

PS there are new bastardized cummins studs available for us that are significantly stronger than the cosworth PN we've all been using for years. Kermatdi has them.

yeah I meant 100 ft/lbs with the ARP lube...wily's did the 110 with it as well.
I believe with this diameter stud yeild is around 130ft/lbs with their lube...you want to be around 80% or less of that.

ARP just came out with some new studs specifically for vw diesels. New torque is 125 lb/fts.

Part # is 204-4706

yeh should of said arp moly lube i was thinking of around 100lbs/ft so ill go with that
