windage tray install??
«

Right, Instead of gooping up the oil pan on my 1.6TD with RTV sealant I sprung for a windage tray with the reusable rubber gasket instead.
Oil pan is off collecting dust, plastic baffle attached to the oil pickup is broken and sitting on the floor and my windage tray doen't want to simply slip on there.
Do I have to pull the oil pump to get the windage tray over the oil pickup tube? Will I need gaskets?
Do I need a new plastic baffle over the oil pickup tube? (jsst touching it caused the tabs to break off)

I installed the same type of windage tray a couple of years ago. As I recall, it was necessary to pull the oil pump to install the tray. But I also don't think there is a gasket between the pump and the block. (I guess you'll find out for sure when you pull the pump.) You should probably get a replacement baffle for the pickup tube as well.

I figured I would just try removing the just the pickup tube...
No go. Pump has to come off.
I figure I can simply stick the pickup tube back on There is a rubber "O" ring that appears reusable. Comments? Locktite the allen head bolts or just snug them up?
If someone has torque specs for the oil pump as well that would be appreciated.
Thanks,

look in the FAQ for a torque sheet.
the rubber o-ring is reusable. very unlikely to perish in that oil rich environment.

No gasket between pump and block.

'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.
I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

When installing the windage tray, do you use any type of sealant with the rubber seal on both sides?

I don't use any sealant on a rubber gasket.
They do make a rubber oil pan gasket. I believe the ABA rubber oil pan gasket fits the diesel,.. without the windage tray.
