Well, I decided to take it easy for a tank, just to see how far I can stretch a tank of Diesel... Boy, was I surprised! I usually get around 900km on a full tank of Diesel in my 1994 Jetta TD. This time, I slowed down while driving and took it easy while accellerating. I got 1,150km from a full tank. Crazy! Anyone else ever seen a TD (not a TDI) do this?
This time I used regular Diesel, had my winter tires on (~32psi) and had a bunch of stuff in the trunk. Sometime soon I'm going to try with my summer tires at Max psi, Sunoco Gold Diesel (usually seems to last a little longer than regulare diesel) and nothing in the car... Maybe I can add another 100km... Who knows, even 1,150km is better than the 650km I got on my first tank with this car!
Cheers all!
How many litres fit in your tank?
This is why some of us always answer "your right foot" when asked what's the best mod for mileage...these engines are capable of fantastic economy stock.
I've done 900km on 48L (Montreal, QC to Marine City, MI outside Detroit) and probably had another 100km left in the tank. This was cruising at 110-115kph most of the way on wide sticky summer tires and traffic through Toronto. Can't say that's bad...
@Mystery3
I can fit about 56 litres in the tank when it's totally empty.
Cheers
Sounds about right. Best I've done with an AAZ is 985 km on 48 litres in a 4 door mark 2 full of people and luggage on a trip. Educate your right foot.................
Just filled up after several trips into the Lower Mainland. 46 Liters and 1007 Kms. That's about 4.7 L/100. I was under a time constraint, and probably stood on the right pedal a bit more than usual. Normally gets between 4.5 and 5 though. 4 Goodrich Traction TA's @ 42 front and 38 rear. (Keeps the rear end sticky) Timing ~.100. Gonna try .105.
