Tryin to save a buck and was curious if any alternator would fit my 1992 Jetta ECO
Its a Bosch Alternator (90A) has 2 main lugs and the "W" Terminal
Will the gasser alternator fit? or any other years?
Thanks,
Brad M
Many of the alternators are interchangeable. A gasser alternator should work just fine. Just be sure they use the same mounting bracket and that the pigtail for the wiring is the same. If not you will have to do some modification, but alternators usually don't have more than 3 wires anyway. You could always grab the mounting bracket from the donor too. I think they all mount on top of the water pump. Some have different tensioners depending on the whether or not you have air conditioning or power steering. Just grab one at the junkyard and take it to your local parts store that tests them for free.
Pretty much any Mk2 alternator will "interchange".
But you'll want 90 or greater amp rating if you have A/C or high draw electrical options.
That being said, the pulley is about always different on gasser, and will have to be swapped.
"Most" gassers will have the W terminal provision on the alternator, especially if its a Reman'd.
Two versions
fixed type that uses a sept ten arm/roller
adj spring non arm/roller
I have a factory reman Bosch 90 amp fixed model with new clutch pulley for 150.00
Gee-Bee
V belt alternators, not AAZ/TDI stuff... he has a 92 eco diesel and it takes a regular v belt alt. no clutched pulley..
Seems like when I swapped a diesel into my '91 Golf,..
the gasser alternator it came with worked just great.
