building an MHDi ( MTDi ) 2.2hdi
« on: March 30, 2010, 12:14:31 am »
;D Just thought I'd post some pics of some engine conversions that I've been doing since the early nineties  ;D at the moment there's a breakers I know well and have a load of damaged cars PSA's HDi's  I can buy a low milage HDi without injection system for £100 ,  , So all I need to do is design an injection system for the job ,,,,

The campers below are fitted with = red one 12valve 2.1td we'll be changing the pump to bosch at the weekend ,, the other blue camper is fitted with a 306DTurbo engine xantia inlet manifold running underslung intercoolers  ,

if all goes well will build an MTDi / MHDi for the 305 van

:) 1Z's are cheap now  some friends have these in there campers and to make them go as well as my Peugeot powered campers means the life is greatly shortened = I've built some hybrid injection pumps using pumps collected up from later VW TDi's 220/300bar , these had rods through the block or cracks in the block behind the flywheel so parts were really cheap ,these parts will be great to power the direct injection HDi , for these injectors to fit the HDi cylinder head 0.8mm to a depth of about 15mm then about 1.4mm to a further depth about 6mm needs machining , the lower portion is identical ,

if you got a bit of spair time i would make or get a pump bracket to bolt on to the hdi engine to take the landrover 200/300 tdi ve bosch pump and put the 300 injectors on to , you will need the same size cam pully (on hdi)to fit the bosch pump and maby a extra tencher/idler , the pump would need tweeked up for max revs/ power, injector spray patern may be a problem, 300tdi injectors are 230bar not shure the nozzle size

;D I've been building mechanically operated pumps - Bosch electronic type pumps like fitted to the VW TDi , I've built the pump and have some injectors from a BMW to fit the HDi engine  :) the pump bracket I'm going to use is from a pug D turbo engine

The pug van above is to be fitted with a HDi gearbox and 2.1 bottom end I think  - just picked an engine up today , it took plenty of searching to find a 305 van  this good , now has PAS and lecy windows  :) , just like another pals that had been a local delivery van warehouse stored fitted with 1.9TD ,

:) Hi, I've not actually tried bolting one on yet , I've looked at the casting and believe it will bolt on , I'll try one on as soon as I get chance  :)  which is going to be very soon- blew head gasket on DTurbo engine due to boost gauge giving wrong reading and me turning boost up , I fitted another gauge and was hitting over 25psi  ::)

:) been quite busy with other work , the campers still running with D-turbo lump just tightened head studs to F,T ,just got round to fitting the pump bracket  two bolts fit - one mount point needed machining other still needs  looking at ,

pumps fixed in position, been trying to find a suitable set of injectors , bmw 320d fit and are two stage but might need pipes making ,, found some better injectors being shorter so have pipes that fit  , will check out some more when I get the chance whilst looking for a better turbo  :)

:)  :) :)machined up another set of two stage injectors to fit ,
Set timing up on one of my MTDi pumps , bled injectors and this is the first start up , I'm really pleased at how she sounds , sits nice and steady , just need to take this in to my factory for finale build up + fit new fuel injector pipes , pos variable vane turbo or twin turbo ( in readiness for bugjam  ) , then fit adaptor plate to fit my T25 / T3 camper as still designing machining parts for new high ratio gearbox to fit  , :D

Hi, I've tried a couple of different injectors from BMW 320 to early transit connect , piston  crowns are similar to vw tdi , compression ratio of this engine is 18.00:1  a 2.2hdi that I'm also building is slightly lower at 17.60:1  ,  the 2.0L hdi I'm building it to be a realistic 120bhp with 196ft lbs , In a pals unit sits a very clean 305 estate that the 2.2hdi might get fitted to , I'm after a lot of power from this engine
