more gasser questions, safe RPM limit..

what would you guys feel safe turning your 1.8 with a hydro head? its completely stock on the bottom end, but has a couple small mods. i need the rev limiter to be higher, i just dont want to sacrifice an engine figuring out how many RPMs are too many. i know if i wanna spin the guts out of the engine i should probably get some ARP rod bolts and do a quick balance on the bottom end.

usually for gasser questions, i would ask over at the vortex, but they are just a bunch of idiots for the most part. im not going to trust the bottom end of my engine to the advise of a retard. i really want one of your guys's opinions, as they are much more valuable to me. i know most of you guys have built and ran gassers before too, so what did you run yours at? how many rpms does it take to make parts exit the block?

my buddy troy spins his to 8,300 regularly. He has a 12.2 1/4 mile GTI all stock bottom that he put a cross flow head and turbo. Welded the trans for posi and lots of tuning...it is sick.

Moral of the story, spin all you want.

thats kinda what i thought i would hear, but i didnt want to scatter the bottom end and then figure out "dont spin your engine over XXXX rpms!!!" after it was too late.

everyone else say about the same thing? pretty much spin it as much as i am comfortable with? not like im going to spin it to 8k in every gear tho.

If you are going to peg it on a frequent basis, I would sure consider better valve springs.

Bearing in mind that the main difference between the 8 valve and the 16 valve is the head and pistons, and the 16v is good for 8k+ rpms, 7500 is quite realistic and safe, imho (with stock springs).

Or you could just buy the Porsche ing. rotor, that way you can choose your max rpm. I think they start at 5k and go up by 200.

I'm running a "3A" Audi 2.0L stock bottom end with a T.T. stage 1 cylinder head, but I've made it a stage 3 now. T.T. 272  cam with high rev spings. Euro exhaust manifold to full stainless 2.25 exhaust. recurved ing. dist., euro fuel dist.
I can rev it to 7200 rpm at every shift w/ no problem  .

Or you could just do what he did.
