strange squeeking on aaz
« on: March 26, 2010, 10:53:00 am »
When my car is at idle or say going up hill but at low revs there is a strange squeeking noise, i have put some anti slip on the fan belt but that was not it, im worried it will be the wobbly bottom pully thing, if it is this is there anything i can do to fix it or am i going to be looking for a new engine, also is there any common squeeks that i should be looking out for first,

cheers for you help

I will bet that the serp belt idler gear is going out.

as the bearings in it start to fail it will squeak at low speeds, and get progressively worse throughout the rpm range.

try replacing the idler and see where that gets you.

yeah, old dry bearings will stop squeaking when they speed up(until they start squealing all the time that is)

the idler is the pulley attached to the tensioning arm for the serp belt, it rides on the back of the belt to keep it tight.

My '82 rabbit has a squeek sometimes that I've never found, it's stayed the same with 2-3 different t-belt tensioners.
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.
