Intermediate shaft seal
« on: March 08, 2010, 09:04:17 pm »
I worked on my car over the weekend to fix oil leaks and replaced the seals on the crank and Intermediate shaft.  I got the o ring for the seal holder and installed it tonight and after I got the pulley on, turned it a revolution or so.  As I started the oil pan gasket, I see oil dripping down the block from the new seal - with no oil under pressure.  Could this be from the bolt hole getting squeezed out or is there something I am missing?  I really want to have no leaks this time.  The old o ring was small and hard as can be, I believe it was running by the o ring for a while causing most of my drips.

Probably residual oil, maybe in a bolt hole like you said..
a new o-ring seals well and there was no oil pressure behind the seal yet.

I wanted to report success!  No oil leaks now for weeks; I actually cleaned the floor in the garage and my fresh painted oil pan still looks fresh.  The car has leaked for years and one run of synthetic was the killer, but now it holds it all with no leaks, no problem with parking it at friends driveways or wherever.  How long can this last?  Can it go years?
