Jetta A2 shifter upgrades
« on: March 07, 2010, 07:46:43 am »
Both my shifter shaft bushings are shot and I want to replace them with something better than the factory urethane units. I know about Missing Linkz; thet sell UHMW polyethylene and teflon bushings. I was thinking bronze, though the factory units use a ball socket arrangement. The front one can be retrofitted with bronze by drilling out the rivets in the holdr and bolting it back in. But the shifter box bushing holder looks to be one piece. Not sure how I could put a rigid bushing in there. Also, wondering in general why the bushings need to have a ball feature on the O.D. Doesn't the shifter shaft move linearly? Lastly, is the shafter shaft supposed to be straight? Mine's got a couple bends in it.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
