Lucas, these pages were not apparent to me earlier, whatever you linked me too last time got me to the same site and stuff, but different stuff
$39 for a 712-2DWK Westach sender, and $49 for the Westach 2C2 gauge. $88! sweeeet.
Whats the consensus on the drilling manifold while in the car from the bottom?
you can't do it well, the mani should be off

This is on a NA? I don't know where on the mani you want it but I did a NA installation on mine with the mani on the car, I think I put the probe in the #2 runner. Later after I did the turbo install-then-remove thing I moved the probe to where it could read from two cylinders and that required doing before the mani was installed.

I think it would be possible to install it on an angle in the paths of 2 and 3 cyl's from under neath the car straight up.. but would this work.. drilling on a sort of angle.. have to get a good punch to start a good hole. and then start wit ha small bit eh.
yes an N/a.

I think it will be less hassle to take the manifold off and then drill it. Or better yet, drill a spare manifold. Keep in mind mk1's are different then mk2

Can we do it in your shop?

you want me to remove a manifold that has been on there for over 800k kms!?!?!? ARE YOU NUTS!?

I dunno man, I am super afraid of stripping nuts, and all that good stuff that is associated with removing a Mani that is on studs. lol I'll try drillin it on the car.. if all else fails.. then i will remove it!
whats the diff between mk1 and mk2 exhaust manifolds? i thought it was just the intakes that were different?

mk1 flange is centered between #2 and #3. Mk2 is right behind cylinder #3
Don't worry about mileage. It's a diesel. Your engine is all dirty and covered in oil right?

You may have already discovered this, but since last I ordered my stuff (from the US) Aircraft Spruce now has a full Canadian presence and website with Canadian prices:

I listened to Andrew and the guage moves almost as fast as my foot.
My mechanic was amazed at how fast it responded,.. and surprised the temps drop so fast.

Oh, you're also listing the wrong thermocouple. The one you want is part# 10-01478 for $33.75. I just realized that's not by Westach, but it is THE ONE you want.
Thanks for that, I don't have mine in front of me and didn't know if that was it or not. Looks like they also have one that goes down to 100, but also goes up to 1900 so you would lose the resolution. For the extra 100 degrees cooldown might be worth it??? Here it is.3A2-1 3-1/8" Square Exhaust Gas Temperature with a range of 100 - 1900F

Just realized it is bigger and the 2c2-1 does the same thing.

I love the no-nonsense business look of the Westach gauges, and the fact that they come in practically any combination you can think of means you can populate your car with a single gauge theme!
Well, except the stock cluster, but the difference isn't so stark as to look odd.

Wow guys a lot of gooood stuff! Thanks Andrew for the killer input! I think I have what I'm gonna order planned out
10-04142 WESTACH 2C2-1 EGT 100-1900F 52.75
10-01478 PROBE EGT 1/8 NPT 36.50
10-01229 WESTACH INSTRUMENT LIGHT 5.75
10-04147 WESTACH 2C2-19 EGT 200-1400F 52.75
Andrew I asked the parts rep at Aircraft Spruce and he told me that though the probe you listed will work with either of the two gauges I have posted, it would be best to stick with the 712-2dWK to keep it consistent with the gauge. What are your views on this? Why do you say to use the 10-01478 probe?
Turbine, I think the westach gauges fit right in with the black face white needle theme of the vw clusters. I think it will look sharp.
I think I will opt for the 2-1400 gauge as it is the same price, same size.. yet has a lot more usable gauge space.

I think we should have a rule that states something like "if all else fails revert to what vince or andrew have said"
I got my setup *not yet installed* after consulting andrew, so whatever probe he recommends I would go for it.

Thank-you Andrew for clearing that up
Rule/Fact. Andrew and Vince are smarter than Chuck Norris. Period.
So your sender and that 200-1400 gauge

Plus the lighting kit, thank-you for your superior intellect Andyroo.
I understand what you mean now Andrew bout the gauge reacting that much quicker because of the less mass of the sender that has to heat up and tell the gauge "hey, its gettin a little toasty in here. BACK OFF MAN!". Sounds Solid.
