If you want more power from your battery for starting and you want to upgrade your cc size, a larger cable is the answer

Stock is 4 gauge, you should update to at least 1/0 gauge for the positive wire..

I have purchased box ( lot) of 24' battery cables for my upgrade 1/0 Gauge.

There is a ad for these in the For sale section.

Stock negative ground is a 6 ( wire size ), I installed a Size  2 wire /24' long

1/0   or 1 gauge???

I went with 1/0 and it is amazing, 1 gauge would be good, but almost 1/2 the size of 1/0 I think

in the "big 3" upgrades it's the engine/gearbox to ground, battery to ground and battery to alternator that can profit from a raise in size

I would also upgrade the live to starter motor

Size 2 for the ground is what Iam installing to body from top post to ground

Another ground for the side post to body

Size two positive to main wiring harness from side post ( optima )

These are 1 / 0 battery cable top post to the Starter

What size should the ground be?

Same size as the positive cable... you're trying to ram the same amount of electrons through it.

Ditto on the BA positive cable direct to the starter solenoid's starter power terminal! Personal preference is also to use a (Canadian or US-made) Ford fenderwell starter solenoid relay in the ignition switch line to the VW starter-mounted solenoid. Reduces the load on the factory ignition switch, plus it provides a convenient attachment point for remote (momentary) starter switch leads, to bump the engine over to TDC, observe valvetrain action, etc.

I did a Optima dual post type battery

Double ground wires top & side post on my MK caddy.

Wires are now four times larger than tock on both pos & neg.
