AAZ pre-cup cracks
« on: February 14, 2010, 06:05:46 pm »
I've started to strip the aaz head, and found some hairline cracks around the openings of the pre-cup..
still useable or do they need replacing ???

Unless you know of somewhere that you can get the precups you won't be able to replace them.  There is a thread on just this subject.  The rule of thumb, so to speak, as I'm told, is that if the cracks run halfway or more then they need replacing.  I am going to be running copious amounts of boost so I am replacing mine regardless.

These are not AAZ's but 1.6TD one that also have hair line cracks. Take a look.

The one thats #3 has a sharped edge that bent down twards the piston.
The other has a crack about 1/8th inch long at the opening.

May-be abit over-kill but you can only really see 'em clearly by eye
have taken some photo's but none show the cracks

engine build :-
k24 turbo + boost controller
1mm overbore
h section rods
balanced + lightened
engine girdle
2.5" down pipe and full system
pump mods (poss 10mm head,11mm if i can find one)

so running high boost and extra fuel = cracked pre-cup death ???

may well just get a new head in better condition
