ALH pump timing M-TDI conversion on AHU Landrover injection pump
« on: February 11, 2010, 06:09:17 am »
Ok I have searched the Forum and am missing what I am looking for(like shopping at Home Depot and walking by the glue and 2x4's then asking for help after a 30min search).

I want to know if there is anything special or different about the ALH pump timing.

I am building a M-tdi with a Landrover pump vw AHU engine.  Rover pump has a flange that will accept the ALH IP sprocket or it will accept the AHU sprocket with the hub removed from the pump shaft.  The LR pump mounting holes are not slotted, I can slot the mounting plate if needed. Saw at least a few posts covering this.  Fellow was not sure which gear he used and I just want to be sure, not reinvent the wheel.

What is the setup for IP timing on the ALH engine?  Is it different from other VW's?

Can someone discribe the IP timing for the Landrover pump?  Looks like there is a slot on the front of the shaft to accept a tool locking the hub into position?  The timing would be changed in relation to location of the sprocket(3 bolts secure sprocket to the hub on shaft).

I am not a fan of fly-by-wire.  Had a F350 TDI that developed problems, Toyota anyone, and son's Saturn with ELECTRIC POWER STEERING(what junk, fails at will, dead stick, no kidding).

Regards,  David K

Just done an AHU with Landrover pump. Slotted 1y mounting bracket and used ahu sprocket.Starting point for timing around 1.25. The govenor shuts the fuel down at 4k.

Found a fellow installing a TDI in a T3 in Europe.  He is basically doing the same thing I am.  Thanks for the info.

Did the engine run well?  How was the advance on the pump timing?  What size injectors are you running?

Thanks,  David K

Still setting up. Engine ran "ok" as is. Just made an 80mm straight thru exhaust to help the vnt which is set at 1bar max for now. The main spring will need shimming and the timing curve altering. This project isn`t all about grunt and hoping for good results on std injectors although AFN ones will fit in with the notion of what I want. Have fun rolo.

i make many tdi-pump and the good timing is 1mm but you must be touch the internal regulator pression of your pump

land rover pump is a 11mm head rotor you must be use a big nozzle a 0,205 and last nozzle(0,220 ....) because i broke two 11mm head with the 0,187 nozzle

I am planning ot change the injectors.  Thanks for the advice on the 205's.  How do I change the internal pressure regulation?

Thanks,  David K

You do not change him(it) you rule(ruler), in the center in the enfoncant gradually
I appele pressure regulator the room(part, play) which is just behind food(supply) in diesel oil of the pump, the tdi-m owes slammed + that a tdi-e.

If you want big nose I sell it.
