Good read, thanks for the link!
Aircooled diesel... can you imagine the noise
Aircooled diesel... can you imagine the noise
I don't have to. Lister/petter corporation has been building small direct injection air cooled diesels for years. They are often used on generators and on conveyors for gravel and such. They are desirable in some applications because of their simplicity. They don't have a radiator or cooling system, no ignition and a minimal fuel system (unit pump) so there are few things to go wrong. We have a few around the shop and they are indeed loud. They sound like they are going to blow up at any second, but they run like that for years...
Reminds me of those air cooled Deutz farm tractors that used to be around.
I don't know if they still make them or not

I found myself yet another project: a diesel beetle!!!
With a Porsche 1.6l block I guess...
The noise will be terrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrific!!!

Only until you go supersonic, then all will be silent

I doubt I'll go supersonic with any car whatsoever.
I was thinking of a 1.6 litre, twin turbo, 16 valve TDI aircooled...interesting, no?
