H & R Block Coupon
« on: February 03, 2010, 05:25:41 am »
I had to have a tax person prepare my stuff this year. I am usually too cheap to have someone do it, but this year it was too much. They said it would cost me 283.-- to do it. Then said if you can find a coupon we can take some off. It has been over 30 minutes of searching and this is the best I have found. Maybe it will be helpful for you US guys that need taxes done. 30.00 off if you are the first time user of H&R Block. Hope it helps.

I feel your pain!!

If you're a member of any organization, or credit union there are sometimes tax preparation discounts to be had..  I've even noticed some banks offering them..  They want you to deposit that big fat refund after all..

My PA Farm Bureau and Pa State Employee Credit Union memberships were good for about 30% off H&R Block..  8)

Till next year I think I'd like to figure out how to relinquish my US citizenship.. No more taxes, lots more government benefits!  ::)

Yeah on the us citizen thing.
I asked the lady if I could opt out of the government pay to work deal...she said no. You have to take it. It is something like 400 per person and even if you think it is morally wrong for the government to give you that from others tax money there is NO WAY to not take it...sadly this is still the best country in the world, if you don't believe me ask an illegal.

Yes there is a pay to work tax credit of 400.00 per person that the stimulas package or something is providing, and you can't not get it. There is no way to not recieve it if you worked for the 2009 year. I thought it was BS and didn't want it as I would like tax money to stay in the tax payers hands not redistributed...I could go on with that, but my point is that if you use HR Block you can get the 30.00 off if you are first timer like me.

I can't imagine paying that kind of money to do simple 1040 work.

Turbotax is free for simple returns and TaxAct is for all Fed returns, I think.  I have been using TaxAct for almost 10 years.  I can buzz through it in an hour- I would like to get $300 from someone to do this stuff..

My return wasn't all that simple. I have normal job with a w-2, then a 1099 and then we have a small chicken farming operation. Still no where near justifying close to 300.00.

Of course, the business complicates it.  But, once you see how the wizards do it the first time, every year after that it should be more or less the same, no?  Still, I can see why you might want to let someone else mess around with it and just make a few more chickens to pay for it.

Yeah I will probably have to wait to stick that on next years taxes-using them.

Yes it didn't seem bad them doing it but it took her over an hour and she was pretty fast. I had all the info up front as well so we didn't need to figure anything just enter it. As far as doing it myself again next year, I heard that they are trying to pass something that 2010 will be the last year you can do your own. After this I heard that they will be making it a law that a professional has to prepare them  ::)

They better be paying for my professional every year, then. My taxes are easy, I am not paying someone to do them.

as far as I know it isn't law--yet. But yes, I drive old vw's, save money, work for a living, and live modestly for a reason, so I can use the cash I have as I see fit. Kind of sucks that they would do something like this, but we will see if it actually goes through.

I know a guy who used to work for HR block and he says not to go there because they pretty much just use a turbo tax type of program. I think you can pick up turbo tax for around $70 and when your done with it you can give it to some other family member or friend.

If they ever did that , that would be the last straw.  I would retire and move to another country.  I have been doing my own taxes all my life.  I even used to be an IRS Revenue Officer (briefly, 30+ years ago) so I can even struggle through it without the software, if need be...
